Abstract


This report is the clinical and statistical studies of the serious diseases of the 107 patients who were admitted to dept. of Oral Surgery, Hospital of Dentistry, Chosun University, for a. year since October, 1978.
The results were obtained as follows ;
1. Among the total of 107 cases of the patients, the dominant disease of patients was fractures of facial bones (53.3%), and inflammatory. diseases (15.0%), cyst (11.2%), injured diseases(11.2%) tumor(7.5%), maxillary sinusitis (1.9%) were in the order.
2. The most prevalent age ainong the total of 107 cases of patients was third decade (37.4%) and it was also the most prevalent age in the jaw fractures(47.8%).
3. In sex ratio of male to female from the 107 patients, men were 68.2% and women 31.8%, while in injured diseases men were 82.6% and women 17.4%. In the other diseases men were 42.1%, women 57.9%.
4. The dominant region of jaw fractures was symphysis and in the mandibular fractures the condylar fractures were frequent in right, but the body fractures were involved frequently in left, while the zygomatic bone fractures were involved most frequently in left. In cases of cysts, the site ratio of maxilla to mandible involved was 1.8 : 1.
5. The major etiological factors of fractures were traffic accidents (42.0%), industrial or working accidents(23.2%), fist fights(20.3%), and others(14.5%) in the order.
